Zero waste store are not a new idea. Many zero waste grocery stores have opened up in population dence areas supplying bulk food and other items easily placed in customers self provided containers. Lets create zero waste cafes, restraunts, everthing.
What about all of our modern conveniences?:
- Plastic cutlery is an absolute joke. They don't work very well and their use life time is mere minutes. Just take a minute and eat there.
- People lived without plastic before the 1960s.
- It's super easy to put a fork/to-go container/bag in your backpack or car.
Nada is a relatively new urban grocer that serves it products to customers without any packaging. They are located in Vancouver Canada. I would be interested in finding out how they get their goods and if that process is also disposable package free.
Unless you're a farmer these are the current package free options.
Bulk Food Section:
Most grocery store chains have introduced bulk food sections allowing you to fill up a container as much as you want and pay for what you take. The issue is that most of these stores don't have a system in place to allow the customer to bring in and pre-weigh their own containers to avoid using store provided plastic bags.
Famers Markets:
Some cities have farmers markets. If yours doesn't sucks to suck. Some farmer market retailers will allow you to buy the product without any packaging.
We need to make manufactures responsible for their waste.
This is a great listen if you don't understand why the responsibillity of waste falls on the companies and not the public/ consumers.
